McKenzie Quinn is a research assistant in the study of bacteriophage genomics. Currently, she is working on writing a program that will look at the shared synteny of protein-coding "phamilies" and positions of operons in bacteriophage genomes. Past projects include: Discovering Methicillin Resistant Mobile Genetic Elements in Viral Fraction from Environmental Samples and Characterization of Mycobacterium Smegmatis Bacteriophages Isolated in India. She has attended and presented research at JMU Biosymposium, HHMI SEA-Phages Symposium (awarded an honorable mention), regional, state, and national American Society for Microbiology Conferences/Meetings. She has been recognized for her work in mentoring young women to pursue science careers and her teaching assistance in the Viral Discovery Program at James Madison University.
